Although the script has some holes and sappy
speeches almost as vomit inducing as Pearl Harbor's, I found
this movie to be quite enjoyable. It's loaded with plenty
of special effects, action scenes and humor to make up for
it.
At first, one might think that Tobey Maguire
was not right for the part of Super-Man, but I think he pulled
it off quite nicely. Apparently he worked out like a madman
for months to be Spider-Man material, and I'd have to say
that it worked--he's ripped.
Kirsten Dunst did a fairly good job, especially
when you consider the script she was given. And when they
throw in a gratuitous wet t-shirt nipple scene, all is forgiven.
Willem Dafoe plays the schizophrenic villan
quite well. He is especially good at maniacal laughter, which
every real villan must have. And, you know, whenever I walk
into my house and hear evil laughter coming from upstairs,
the first thing I think and say is 'Dad, is that you?'
This is definitely a movie to see on the big
screen. I'm sure it will be around for a while, so if you
haven't seen it already you've got some time.
