Okay, first off, I have three great praises
for this movie:
1. The casting. I thought they did a really
good job, and matched my images of these characters pretty
well. All except one fatal mistake: casting Hugo Weaving as
Elrond. I'm sorry, but as a friend of mine said "I just
couldn't stop thinking about him saying 'Mr. Anderson' in
The Matrix."
2. The orcs. I thought they did an amazing job
making them the ugly, evil bastards that they are.
3. I don't know how the hell they did it so
well, but they managed to make the hobbits sufficiently smaller
than the humans, wizards etc. It was amazing--even more amazing
than how they put that handy yellow line on the football field
on TV, and the players can walk right over it. Isn't technology
wonderful?
As for how accurately they followed the story:
pretty decent, considering all that they had to cram into
a 3-hour movie.
And what will you receive for your eight bucks?
An action-packed, suspense-filled, high-budget, fairly well-acted,
good movie.
