Well, after what seems like it must have been
a year of hype, I was finally able to view the film which
you couldn't avoid knowing about if you lived in a cave in
Afghanistan.
I was impressed. The story, (loosely based on
Eminem's life), stayed simple and real, and didn't turn into
the usual "Mr. Nobody proves himself and gets this amazing
deal because the record producer just happened to walk into
the club/bar/ghetto/friend's house at just the right moment
to see the future star at his best of best moments and is
instantly inspired to make Mr. Nobody more famous than Elvis
and richer than Bill Gates and they live happily ever after"
story, of which Hollywood produces so many different versions.
Eminem wasn't out of his element and wasn't
a horrible actor as so many singers/rappers are when they
get a movie deal. I suppose that that is due to the fact that
he was basically playing himself...but, still, I didn't feel
the need to vomit all over him and yell at whoever started
turning rappers/singers in to movie stars.
Brittany Murphy was hot as usual, and just for
our viewing pleasure, takes her shirt
off...wahoo!
I also noticed that the soundtrack was actually really good.
It would be hard to watch this movie and not move with the
beat at some point. Good stuff.
This movie is definitely worth watching. That is, unless,
the very thought of Eminem, rapping/freestyle, or violence
makes you feel the urge to stab yourself with a fork and run
screaming.
